Week of June 6th-June 9th

The first week of class was good. I was excited to hear that we would be working with students from Destination College. I thought that it was really different considering I took RDG091 last summer, but had to drop it due to an unfortunate event. I thought that it would be exactly the same as last summer, but as I found out it was pretty much completely different. When we got into our groups I was extremely confused because I did not understand what we were suppose to be doing with our groups and what we were suppose to be doing on our own. Although I found my group very helpful, I still did not understand the full concept of what we were going to be doing. I was really excited to be creating my own lesson plan to share with my own student. I could not wait to start working with the students the next week.
The first chapter we got as a group was part 1, the introduction. The reading that my group chose to read was "Louis Armstron, Ambassador of Jazz" after we read the reading we had to the comprehension questions that went along with the reading. The book I chose to read to my student that shares concepts with the Louis Armstrong reading was Follow the Drinking Gourd by: Jeanette Winter. The general goal to teach my student for next week was main ideas and details. I could not wait to read to my student the week after.

Week of June 13th-June 16th

The second week is here, and I am excited to work with my students this week!!! I wonder how it's going to go. Well im still a little confused on the whole Mentor Handbook, and ePortfolio thing. This week turned to be really good! My four students Ailyn, David, Carla, and Juan were pretty cool. David, Ailyn, and Carla were really shy and quiet the first day I met them. But, the second time I worked with them they were talking more than I expected them to since they were so quiet the first day. I created my lesson plan and it turned out really well. I went along with what my lesson plan said as I read and had my session with each Student. The concepts that we had to teach them this week were Main ideas and Details and also Figuartive Language. The books I picked out to read to them were Follow the Drinking Gourd and Mrs. Gaddy and the Fast-Growing Vine. The students really to have seemed to enjoy the books, which is great!

Week of June 20th-June 23rd

The third week is here. This class is going really good. I just get confused on some stuff but its getting better, and I am getting the hang of things. This weeks main ideas to teach our students are, Facts and opinions and the four modes of writing. The two books I chose to read to my students to help them understand Facts and opinions and the four modes of writing are Volcanoes and Dumpling Soup. Volcanoes is the book I chose to teach my students the difference between Facts and opinions. Dumpling Soup is the book I chose to help my students learn what a narrative writing is. The mode of writing I chose out of my group was Narrative. The students seem to be talking more and interacting with the book more. I am so happy to see them get more and more into the books. I am also a little sad that this will be the last week we have to work with the students. This week turned out to be really good, and I was so happy to get thank you cards from each of my students. This was a perfect way to end my class.
